Research Intern:
Job Description: The Research Intern’s primary function is to provide laboratory technical assistance to support the goals and objectives of the lab. The ideal candidate will have an interest and background in bioengineering, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. His or her principal responsibilities will be to carry out design, assembly, and testing of microfluidic oxygenators. He or she will also be expected to contribute to the design of experiments, development of protocols, and manuscript/grant writing. Candidates will ideally be able to commit to 12-16 months of full-time work in the lab with an option to extend to additional years, if desired.
This position is particularly well-suited for recent college graduates who are looking for a “gap year” position prior to entering medical school or graduate school. In addition to having the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to academic research, for those interested, there will be opportunities to gain clinical experience by shadowing Dr. Blauvelt in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Nemours Children’s Hospital.
Requirements:
Bachelors degree in a relevant scientific field
Ability to commit at least 12 months of full-time research effort
To apply, please send your CV and cover letter to david.blauvelt@nemours.org.
